Academician Chen Xiangsheng wins the 2020 Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award - Grand Prize for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering

On 17 December 2021, the Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Education Foundation held an award ceremony in Beijing for the "2020 Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award", and our President Chen Xiangsheng was awarded the 14th "Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award - Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Award". "Professor Yao Yangping from the College of Transportation,Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics also received the award. The "Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Award - Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Award" is established by the Mao Yisheng Science and Technology Education Foundation and is awarded every two years, with one to two winners each time, with the aim of rewarding scientific and technological workers who have made outstanding contributions in the field of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering in China and promoting the scientific and technological and the growth of talents. So far, this award has been awarded for thirteen years and 17 winners have been awarded. The award has become the highest level, most authoritative and influential award in the geotechnical engineering field in China.

Academician Chen Xiangsheng has long been committed to geotechnical engineering, tunneling and underground engineering and research, established the physical and mechanical system of artificial permafrost, innovated the limit state design theory of deep freezing wall, established the dual control design formula of freezing wall and freezing tube deformation limit, and solved the world-wide problem of preventing and controlling freezing tube fracture and flooding; developed the first set of VOTEX airflow (Cambridge University) and electric power (Tsinghua University) on supergravity testing machine The first set of VOTEX airflow (Cambridge University) and electric power (Tsinghua University) cooling devices on a supergravity testing machine was developed, and a calculation method for energy transfer in three heat transfer modes in a supergravity field was given. The above achievements have provided core technologies for the well-working mining and engineering disaster control of deep deposits in China. In addition, Academician Chen Xiangsheng also created a complete set of technologies for precise control of stratum deformation in underground tunnel proximity underground space engineering, scientifically reconstructed domestic and international underground security zone norms, released a large amount of land resources that could not be used in the underground tunnel security zone in Qianhai area of Shenzhen, and widely used in other cities; proposed strategies and methods for maximising the effectiveness of underground space in the underground domain, and an underground ecological civilisation construction model and It has put into practice the strategy and method of maximising the efficiency of underground space in the metro area and the metro ecological civilisation construction model. It has led the direction of carbon reduction and intensive use of land resources in metro projects, and provided Shenzhen solutions for the sustainable development of metro in China. The concept of multi-disciplinary planning of underground space is proposed as "residents' demand - land resources - urban space - rail transit".

In recent years, Academician Chen Xiangsheng has led his colleagues to persist in facing the world's scientific and technological frontiers and major national projects and major needs, and has achieved a series of fruitful results in a number of areas such as resilient cities and resilient underground spaces, intelligent construction of underground projects, intelligent perception of underground spaces, and utilisation of construction waste from underground projects. It has also been continuously funded by high-level research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of Chinese major projects, key projects, more than ten topics in the major R&D programme of Sichuan-Tibet Railway of the State Railway Group and the Ministry of Science and Technology, major R&D projects of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen high-level talent team projects, as well as a number of major engineering consultancy projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area such as underwater tunnels and metro large hubs. It has contributed the collective wisdom of Shenzhen University's disciplines of geomechanics and geotechnical engineering, tunneling and underground engineering under extreme conditions, and intelligent geotechnical engineering in overcoming difficulties in national major engineering science and technology.
